Botox, is approved by the FDA to treat chronic migraine headaches. People who recieve Botox injections for migraines recieve the treatment every three months and these treatments take less than 10 mins to complete.
For many, that is all they need to keep their headaches under control. The medication typically is injected into the muscles of the forehead, scalp, neck and shoulders.
How does it work? Botox deactivates pain receptors and blocks pain signals that the nerves send to the brain. This treatment can prevent on average 8-9 headache/migraine days a month.
*Some insurance companies will cover this procedure.
